Sportsmetric, where you research.
Look up athlete and team popularity from an AI assistant or Chrome. These lightweight, read-only previews return up to ten matching profiles with recorded Instagram follower counts and links to Sportsmetric.
MCP server
Add this remote connector URL in an MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP:
https://sportsmetric.com/api/mcp
MCP is available only to authenticated Sportsmetric users. Every request, including initialization, tool discovery and resource reads, requires a valid Sportsmetric user session. Remote MCP clients must send an Authorization: Bearer <user-session-token> header. Session tokens expire and must be refreshed through the existing sign-in/session flow. Never use a Clerk backend secret key as a client token. This is session-token authentication, not an automatic OAuth connector flow.
Transport: Streamable HTTP, stateless JSON responses. POST is supported; standalone SSE/GET subscriptions are not. Unauthenticated or invalid-session requests return HTTP 401.
Tools
search_athletes— athlete names and recorded Instagram followers.search_teams— team names and their own recorded Instagram followers.
Both take query (2–80 characters) and optional limit (1–10). Use the sportsmetric://methodology resource for data limitations.
Example request to your assistant: “Use Sportsmetric to find Caitlin Clark’s recorded Instagram audience. Cite the matching profile and explain any missing measurement date.”
Chrome extension
Open the Sportsmetric toolbar popup on a webpage to look for athlete and team names in the title, main heading and structured person/team metadata. It shows up to ten possible Sportsmetric profile matches with recorded Instagram followers. Confirm the sport and team: names alone do not establish identity. You can also search manually and filter All, Athletes or Teams.
Version 1.1.0 uses activeTab and scripting for temporary, click-triggered page access. No persistent host permissions, browsing-history access, background worker or continuous monitoring are used. It does not insert statistics into websites. Detection can miss names and is unavailable on Chrome-restricted pages; manual search remains available. Sportsmetric is not affiliated with ESPN, Wikipedia or Google.
The extension upload ZIP is supplied separately to the publisher. Store availability is not implied by this page. The production API must be published before installed extensions can retrieve results.
What popularity means here
Counts are a profile’s recorded Instagram followers—not unique fans, live figures, athletic performance, sponsorship value or ROI. Team follower counts never substitute combined athlete roster reach. Missing counts and source observation dates are explicitly unavailable. Retrieval time is not measurement time.
Cricketers without verified canonical social-account links may not appear. Names alone do not establish identity: review the supplied sport and context before selecting a profile. Full profile links may require signing in to Sportsmetric.
Developer endpoint
GET /api/public/discovery/search?q=Clark&kind=athlete&limit=10
Errors: 400 invalid input, 429 rate limited (respect Retry-After), 503 source temporarily unavailable. This public service has per-process rate and concurrency limits and is not a bulk-data API or an availability SLA.
